Clever Consult Assists CSKA Moscow in Successfully Defending Its Position in Dispute with Former Coach

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne has partially dismissed the claim filed by the former coach of CSKA Moscow (Club), Mr. Vladimir Fedotov, who sought compensation exceeding EUR 2.1 million. The Club was represented by the legal team of Clever Consult.

Following lengthy proceedings, Mr. Fedotov will receive only 30% of the amount claimed—precisely the compensation the Club had initially offered in a pre-litigation settlement proposal before arbitration commenced.

The CAS panel, consistent with the earlier findings of the Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) of the Russian Football Union (RFU), dismissed the appellant’s argument that the Club had terminated his contract without just cause, confirming instead that the contract expressly permitted such termination.

At the same time, the panel acknowledged that the coach was entitled to minimal compensation for the early termination. The CAS also fully rejected the appellant’s claim for procedural costs, ordering that each party bear its own legal expenses.

The CAS ruling underscores the strength and consistency of the legal and financial position of CSKA Moscow throughout the case. The Club is pleased with the outcome, and we at Clever Consult are grateful for the trust placed in us to represent its interests before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
